Level of Difficulty
During this tour we encounter a great diversity of landscapes and related climates. The first part of the tour takes place between the coast and the west side of the Andes. It’s here that we find the driest desert in the world, the Atacma Desert. Although the climate here is often very hot, we make long days here in order to achieve the pretty long distances required.

As soon as we get up in the Andes mountain range altitude will start playing its part. Fortunately altitude will be increased gradually to minimise symptoms of altitude sickness. The risk of altitude sickness is at its highest at the end of the tour when we stay overnight at Puna and Chivay.

Off-road
We only ride about 5% of the route on unpaved roads. These are mostly well-packed gravel roads and therefore shouldn’t be very difficult though you really do need to watch out on sharp bends.  The roads in Peru are fast getting asphalted. Consequently this trip through fantasticly beautiful scenery is mostly over flat asphalt.

Clothing
Mandatory items are a helmet, a warm motorcycle jacket with protection, gloves, good quality motorcycle trousers with protection, and sturdy, high (mountain) boots. Especially during spring and autumn times it can get very warm travelling through the lower sections of the tour, whilst it can get very cold up in the high mountains. Wearing a motorcycle jacket with removable lining makes things easier. Then, when necessary during cold parts of the trip, you can wear extra clothing underneath your jacket. Also useful a good pair of sunglasses and a helmet with visor, to protect against dust. The rainy season in Peru runs from December to February. We organise it so tours take place during Spring and Autumn when we expect little rainfall. Even so, the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable and it is useful to have waterproof motorcycle gear.

Insurance
The liability insurance is included in the price, the excess is 2,500,- USD.
You can reduce the excess to 500,- USD and that will cost you 15,- USD extra per day.  Please inform us when booking if you wish to have the excess reduced.

Visa
For most nationalities you can get a visitors permit on arrival at the airport, which is valid for four weeks.

Note
The tours will be led by a Dutch tour guide who speaks english, he is living in Peru.

More details about the trip and items to bring can be found in the tour’s handbook which you will receive approximately one month prior to departure.
