Nepal Lower Mustang

Motorcycle
For this tour we use an Enfield Classic 500 cc motorcycle. This is a left (European) switched injection engine.

Tour Guide
Tiziana Warmerdam will be your Tour guide. Tiziana is our Himalayan specialist. She has been tour guide for 10 years, doing several tours each year in the Himalayan region. The itinerary of this trip came about in consultation with Tiziana.

Difficulty of the journey

Nepal is divided in height into three zones. The lowlands to the south, called the Terrai. This is a tropical area where elephants and rhinos live. In the north, the high Himalayas, with snow capped peaks, the Annapurna range and the foot of Mount Everest. The roads in this area are bad, dead-ending in the mountains. Between these two extremes lie the so-called low Himalayas. Our journey takes place in the latter area. You will not reach significant altitude, except for one night in Lower Mustang. There are no long distances and the tour is therefore not overall very difficult.

Off Road
Approximately 20 percent of this journey takes place on dirt roads and/or tracks. In the present itinerary this makes up two or three days. These routes are not very difficult and very do-able without any off-road experience or off-road training beforehand. But then, when faced with weather worse than expected, it’s these off-road days that can be especially difficult.

Clothing
Mandatory items: Helmet, motorcycle jacket with protection, gloves, a good strong pair of (motorcycle) trousers with protection or separate knee armour, and sturdy high (mountain) boots. Especially during the spring and autumn it can get very warm in the lower lying regions of the trip. A summer motorcycle jacket with protection is therefore recommended. Furthermore, a good pair of sunglasses and a helmet with visor that protects against dust are very useful. The rainy season covers the summer months from June to late August. We plan our trips before or after these times. However, it can ignore all weather forecasts so you should consider possible rain for all tours.

Visa
Nepal requires you to have a visa. However, for most countries you do not have to arrange this visa in advance, you can buy one upon arrival at Kathmandu airport for € 35, - Euro. Please check visa requirements for your country.

More details about the trip and items to bring can be found in the tour’s handbook which you will receive approx. one month prior to departure.
