Cambodia Adventure

MOTORBIKES
During this trip you ride on Honda Baja 250cc or similar off-road motorcycles. If you would prefer a lower Honda Degree, please indicate this preference when you register for the trip.

TOUR LEADER
This trip will be led by  a multi-lingual European tour leader on a motorcycle. Our guide knows the routes very well and has years of experience in guiding motorcycle tours.

SUPPORT TEAM
There will be a support vehicle following the group, driven by a local driver. Our support car will carry the luggage and spareparts. The mechanic who sits in the support car, will maintain the motorbikes and do repairs on daily basis.  Our mechanic is also a spare rider in case someone is not able to ride.

DIFFICULTY AND OFFROAD

Roads in Cambodia are improved and tarred with great speed. It remains a challenge for us to keep the trip adventurous; so far so good. As we discovered new adventurous routes each year and incorporated these into the trip, we decided to keep the name. Regardless, motorcycling in Cambodia remains a great adventure. The physical challenge of the trip will depend almost entirely on the quality of the unsurfaced roads. We do not aim to make this a 100% off road trip. The aim is to keep about a third to half of the routes on unsurfaced trails. These unsurfaced parts vary from narrow paths along the Mekong to wide gravel roads through the jungle. Basic offroad skills are recommended. As we discover new adventurous routes every year and incorporate these into the trip, we have decided to keep the name.  Regardless of this, motorcycling in Cambodia remains a great adventure.

ACCOMMODATION
During this trip we will stay in hotels and guest houses. Some accommodations are basic and family-run but are the nicest options in town.

PHYSICAL CHALLENGES
The land in certain border areas is more or less flat. The physical challenges will depend almost entirely on the nature of the unpaved roads. The purpose of this trip is not to go off-road. Instead, the aim is to keep to a third to half of the routes on unpaved trails. These unpaved parts vary from narrow paths along the Mekong to wide gravel roads through the jungle. Even though off-road training is not mandatory, a basic off-road training would be of great use for this trip because learning how and when to manoeuvre the motorcycle can only make the trip more enjoyable. In Cambodia it’s always waiting to see how the dirt roads are after the rainy season. Big trucks keep on driving throughout the rainy season and often become stuck causing the flat roads to suddenly become challenging off-road routes. Nowadays most roads are levelled by bulldozers on a yearly basis. In addition to hardened truck tracks, the rainy season gives rise to treacherous rain gullies and potholes in the road surfaces.

CLIMATE
Cambodia’s climate is tropical, which means it is hot year-round. The only difference in seasons is dry or wet. The wet period is in the late summer months, so the best time to travel is from October to around June.

CLOTHING
The following items are mandatory: helmet, motorcycle jacket with protection, (fingerless) gloves, good hardwearing (motorcycle) trousers with protection or separate knee protection and solid high (mountain) boots. Even though the monsoon only lasts until mid-October, it can be very hot already in November. Make sure that you wear protective but not overly warm motorcycling gear. Bring a helmet which also protects the face and chin, such as a full-face or off-road helmet.

INSURANCE
Third party insurance is not possible.

VISA
Most nationalities need a visa. This can be bought online or on arrival.
