USA Roots of Music TRAVEL BACK IN TIME WITH MARC STAKENBURG

USA Roots of Music

Ex KRO radio music presenter and music connoisseur Marc Stakenburg transports you to the roots of the American music. The tour is jam-packed with things to see and places to go:  we visit a radio station, museums, a recording studio, even a prison. We stand on the stage where Elvis performed his radio debut, we sleep in a hotel where artists like Ike Turner and Johnny Lee Hooker were regulars. We experience a lot of live music, and we ride our bikes along the most beautiful roads of the southern states, through the Mississippi Delta.

We begin and end our tour in New Orleans, cradle of jazz, blues, rock ‘n roll, and gospel. From New Orleans we ride through the swamp regions, see alligators, and experience the Cajun culture first-hand. We’re in Po’ Monkey’s, the last real rural Juke Joint; at midnight we’re at the very crossroads where, so the story goes, blues legend Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in exchange for guitar-playing prowess. In Memphis we visit Elvis’ Graceland and the Sun Studio, and enjoy the soul music of the Stax label.

Marc Stakenburg, on his bike, will lead you through this fascinating part of the USA, giving you more detailed information en route.
